What is your deepest desire?

Key scripture – “Delight yourself in the LORD; and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He will do it” (Psalm 37:4-5).

What is your deepest desire?

Take a minute to stop reading and really think about your answer to this question. What are you chasing after the most in your life? If we are honest, many of us find ourselves thinking about things of this world, the things that will not last for eternity.

It must make God sad how so often we don’t learn this lesson until late in life when we have tried all the worldly things and found they still haven’t filled up that empty spot in our hearts.

Do you want to know what really matters the most? The one thing that will matter to you the most for all of eternity—your living relationship with God Himself.

Today God wants you to know that if you will make Him your deepest desire, then He will satisfy that desire. He will fill that hole in your heart.

Do you desire; love, acceptance, forgiveness, purpose, gentleness, kindness, security, joy, peace? You will find it all—and more—in Him. He has wired our hearts to long for Him. For that reason, the only way to be truly satisfied in life is to make God the great delight and enjoyment of your heart.

In the Key scripture we are told to Delight, Commit and Trust in The Lord. As you read the definitions of these three words think how they apply to your relationship with God.

Delight – to have great pleasure and enjoyment in someone.

Commit – to pledge oneself to a position, to bind, to pledge yourself to something.

Trust- to rely on the integrity, strength, ability and surety of someone. Confident expectation in something; hope; when you rely on someone.

Now apply the definitions of: Delight, Commit and Trust to God:

Delight – to have great pleasure and enjoyment in God.

Commit – your way to Him, pledge yourself to Him, be bound to Him

Trust -rely on His integrity, character, strength, faithfulness and ability.

If you delight, commit and trust in God then “He will do it.” He will give you the desires of your heart.

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, thank You that You never change, that there are no shifting shadows in You. You are always faithful even when we are faithless. Father, “I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.” (Psalm 40:8). I delight to take great pleasure and enjoyment in You, I commit myself to follow You and to obey Your Word, and to be bound to You. I trust in Your integrity, Your Character, Your strength, Your faithfulness, Your ability, and Your Word. My heart longs for You. You are my deepest desire. I am blessed because, my “delight is in the Law of the Lord and I meditate on it day and night.” (Psalm 37:2). My steps are established by You, because You delight in my way; and even though I may fall, I shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds my hand. (Psalm 37:23-24). In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
