Do you want Godly wisdom?

Key scripture- “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.” (Proverbs 9:10).

Do you want Godly wisdom? Which is: knowledge, skill, and knowing how to apply God’s Word in your situation. Here are four things you can do to get wisdom from our all-wise, all-knowing, good, faithful, loving God.

1. Admit that you need it. Proverbs 11:2 says that wisdom is given only to the humble. “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” (Proverbs 11:2). You have got to admit to God that you don’t know what you thought you knew. Confess to Him that you are not all knowing and that He is God and you aren’t. We all need to say this prayer and mean it, “Lord, I need You. I don’t know how to negotiate the turns in the road of my life today without You leading me. I want to live out Your agenda. Show me the plans that You have for me today and give me the strength and wisdom to follow them.”

2. Fear The Lord. The Bible declares again and again that “The fear of The Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” (Psalm 111:10). That doesn’t mean to be petrified of God, but it means to stand in awe of Him, revere Him, and believe that He knows what He is talking about. You show reverence for God by doing what He says to do, not what the world says to do. Every time you turn away from sin and obey Him, you are showing reverence for God.

God doesn’t want to give you His wisdom if it’s going to be treated like leftover information. We need to come to God recognizing and knowing who He is, how Great and Holy He is, and that He is The Lord God Almighty, The Maker of Heaven and Earth. We need to stop treating Him with disrespect, but instead come before Him in awe, reverence, and show humility by bowing before Him and obeying Him.

3. Study the Word. Do you want to be wiser than your enemies? Do you want to be wise with regard to your circumstances? In Psalm 119: 97-100 David stated that the study of God’s Word gave him wisdom and made him wiser than his enemies, even wiser than his elders and teachers. “Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies. I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes. I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts.” (Psalm 119:97-100).

How are you doing in your personal Bible study? Are you relying on others to teach and feed the Word to you? You will never get to know God like you should by relying on others. Open His Word and start reading it today and you will personally get to taste and see how good the Lord is.

4. Pray for wisdom. James 1:5 tells us to ask God for His wisdom. “If any if you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like the wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” (James 1:5-6).

You need to ask God for wisdom and show Him that you want it enough to ask for it, and when you ask, don’t be double minded and say, “I will do it if I like what God tells me to do. If I don’t agree with what God says, then I won’t do it.” If you have that attitude, you will never ever get wisdom from God. Instead, you need to say, “When God gives me His wisdom and tells me what He wants me to do I will not hesitate, I follow and do it immediately, and thank Him for it.”

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, I revere You, worship You, glorify You. I want you to fill me with Your wisdom and whatever You tell me to do, I will do it. “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints.” (Proverbs 2:6-8). I know that when You say “Don’t do something,” You are saying “Don’t hurt yourself.” Your Word and my relationship with You is more precious to me than gold. Father, You tell us, “Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding.” (Proverbs 3:13). I have found Your wisdom in Your Word and I will wait patiently and be silent while you teach me wisdom. “If not, listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.” (Job 33:33). Lord, I need You. I don’t know how to negotiate the turns that are in my life without You leading me. I want to live out Your agenda. Show me the plans that You have for me today. In The Name of Jesus, the Author of Wisdom, I pray, Amen.
