Secure in His arms

Key scripture – “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.” (Deuteronomy 33:27).

Those who belong to God have a safety net that never wears out and that prevents them from making fatal spiritual mistakes. Scripture reminds us of this truth by assuring us that “underneath are the everlasting arms.” God is cradling us, keeping us safe for an eternity lived in His presence.

Sigmund Freud once wrote that one of the strongest needs of childhood is the need for a father’s protection. Fortunately, even those whose earthly fathers failed to provide this sense of security can experience God’s faithful fatherly protection. Knowing that the Father will keep our souls safe means we can put our energy not into building up our sense of self but into building up His kingdom.

Secure in His arms, and putting all our weight on Him and His promises, we can learn to take the risks that faith requires. If you have been playing it safe, resisting some new direction in your life that you know to be right, take some time today to meditate on God’s faithfulness. “The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV).

Tell God that you want His will, His Kingdom Agenda, to be done in your life more than you want your own. Then take up your cross and go ahead and do whatever the Father asks! Jesus told us, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” (John 10:27-30).

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, I praise You and thank You for Your promise to watch over me, and that this promise, like all the others, is true. Like David, I pray, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” (Psalm 103:1-5). I want to bless Your Holy Name. Forgive me for the times that I have not trusted You completely and not taken the risks that faith requires. Give me the grace to always see You as a loving Father, and myself, as Your child. I want to follow Jesus’ as He instructed us to do, “And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” (Matthew 10:38-39 ESV). Father, I take up my cross to follow Jesus in every area of my life. I hold nothing back. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
