The voice of the Lord

Key scripture- “The voice of the Lord is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth.” (Psalm 29:3).
Do you ever take time to wait and listen for God to speak to you?
Some people think it’s a waste of time to simply sit at God’s feet and listen. It is not a waste of time to wait on God any more than when someone takes the time to check their GPS and fill up their gas tank before they start on a trip.
In his booklet “Tyranny of the Urgent,” Charles Hummel wrote, “When we fail to wait prayerfully for God’s guidance and strength, we are saying, with our actions if not our lips, that we do not need Him….Prayerful waiting on God is indispensable to effective service. Like the time-out in a football game, it enables us to catch our breath and fix new strategy…The need is not the call. The call must come from the Lord who knows our limitations.”
In Psalm 29, which is provided below, I want you to count how many times the phrase “Voice of the Lord” is repeated. Then I want you to spend at least that many minutes before the Lord, listening for His voice, and trusting and knowing that He will speak His will to you.
“Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness. The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon. He makes Lebanon to skip like a calf, and Sirion like a young wild ox. The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire. The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth and strips the forests bare, and in his temple all cry, “Glory!” The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord sits enthroned as king forever. May the Lord give strength to his people! May the Lord bless his people with peace!” (Psalm 29:1-11).
Now, at some point today, I want you to get alone and come before The Lord, ask Him to speak to you about whatever your need is, then sit quietly and listen for the Voice of The Lord to reveal His Will to you.
Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, You have told us in Your Word that if I faithfully obey the voice of the Lord, my God, being careful to do all His commandments, then the Lord, my God will set me high above all the nations of the earth and all His blessings shall come upon me and overtake me. (Deuteronomy 28:1-2). Father, give me the wisdom, understanding, knowledge and discretion to hear Your voice and to follow it. Even if I do not understand, help me not to lean on my own understanding but to focus on You and Your Word, and to trust and follow You no matter what my circumstances look like. I know that by loving The Lord, obeying His voice, and holding fast to Him I choose life and blessings. You Lord are my life. I come before You with _______, I need You to speak to me, guide me and lead me. I will be still before You and wait patiently for You. In the Name of Jesus, who showed us how to listen to and obey the voice of God, I pray, Amen.
