Do you know any lukewarm Christians?

Key scripture – “For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith.” (Hebrews 4:2-3).

Do you know any lukewarm Christians? Have you ever been a lukewarm Christian?

A lukewarm Christian has a form of religion but fails to mix their belief with faith and obedience. They go to church on Sunday and live like everyone else all the other days of the week. The apostle Paul described them when he said “these people have a form of godliness but deny its power.” (2 Timothy 3:5).

What are the telltale signs of lukewarm faith? When you sin and it does not bother you, you have lukewarm faith. When you no longer pray about decisions, you have lukewarm faith. When you fail to speak to others about their relationship with God, you have lukewarm faith. When you’re unwilling to spend time with God, your faith has become lukewarm, and you no longer have a living faith. “But My righteous one shall live by faith; And if he shrinks back, My soul has no pleasure in him.” (Hebrews 10:38).

We all need to pay very close attention to what Jesus said about lukewarm Christians when He spoke to John, the apostle, through a vision.

“To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm-neither hot nor cold-I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.” (Revelations 3:14-18). These are strong words from our Lord, Jesus Christ, about lukewarm Christians.

Do those words describe you? Be honest with yourself and God, and ask Him to show you if your faith is lukewarm, and if it is, stop right where you are and turn yourself around and run back to God. He is waiting for you with open arms.

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, I know that the only way to please You is by having faith, because “without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6). I believe that You are God and that You spoke the universe, the world, and everything in it into existence. I believe Your Word and that You do not lie or change. Forgive me for the times in my life when I have been lukewarm toward You and Your Word. Forgive me for when I have been slow to respond to You. Thank You for being so loving and patient with me and pursuing me when I was lukewarm. Father, I want You to revive my heart. I want the Holy Spirit to keep stoking the fire of my faith so that I continue to experience a vibrant and active faith that makes an impact for Your Kingdom. I want to always be on fire for Jesus. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
