Don’t Disregard Devotions
Daniel 6:11
Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.
Since Daniel prayed visibly three times each day, it was not difficult for his enemies to find him praying. It makes good sense to pray morning, noon, and evening. It is good to pray in the morning before you become busy with the day’s activities. Talk to God before you leave home and he will direct your course. Now Lord I don’t know what the day is going to bring, but since you own the day tell me which way to go. It’s too late after you get caught in the stuff; you should have talked to God about it. No, talk to him first. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord. Psalm 91:11 says He gives his angels charge over you to keep you in all your ways. So take a few moments first and have a little talk with God.
If you come to the middle of the day and nothing has happened, you should tell Him thank you. If something has happened you should say, “God, I believe that you and I can handle this.” It is also important to talk to Him in the evening. My goodness, if God gives you a whole day without an accident, certainly you should tell him thank you. If you come home in the evening and your husband or wife shows up and your children made it home from school and you call Mama and she’s all right, shouldn’t you stop to say thank you? Especially when you think of all things that could have happened.
Daniel had a posture for prayer. When I was young coming up, women would come to revival services wearing cotton stockings. They didn’t come to be dressed up looking sharp. They came because they were going to the house of prayer. Men would come with kneepads on. An old deacon used to start like this, “Now Lord, here we are, one more time, our knees are bent and our body is bowed.” They knew how to talk to God. Daniel prayed faithfully.
