The Other Side

Mark 4:35

And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.

Jesus had been with his disciples for quite a while, giving them the comfort of His presence. Whenever there was a crisis, he was there. But Jesus needed to take them to a new turf. He needed to carry them into an environment they had not been in before. That evening, Jesus extended an invitation to his disciples and said, “Let us go over unto the other side.” I’m glad I received that invitation from him when I was fourteen years of age to go with him to the other side. I discovered a long time ago that this is not my home; this is just a temporary dwelling place. Stop wasting your worries today about tomorrow. Let today take care of today. And let tomorrow take care of tomorrow when tomorrow gets here. When I was young coming up, the older church people would keep our minds on where we were going. If you fail to recognize where you’re going, you might forget where you are. Songs would remind us of where we were headed. They would sing, I’m on my journey and I can’t turn around; River Jordan, I’ve got one more river to cross.

So He invited them to go with him to the other side. Now Jesus didn’t tell us what we were going to run into on our way to the other side. I see people all the time going to psychics and calling 1-900 numbers trying to find out about the future. Some things are better not known, because if you knew some things you wouldn’t try. If the children of Israel had known when they left Egypt that a red sea was waiting on them, they never would have left. But when they made it to the Red Sea they had come too far to turn around and they were able to cross that Red Sea. Sometimes God says to us, “I need to just give you a little at a time.” You see, if you take life by the yard it’s hard; but when you take it by the inch it’s a cinch.
