We often neglect small things

Key scripture- “When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.” (John 13:12-17).
Have you ever wondered what you could do to make a big impact for the Kingdom of God?
The answer is pretty simple and unspectacular, and it will probably take you completely by surprise. It does not involve giving up all of your worldly possessions. Nor does it mean you have to move. The secret to making the most impact for God’s Kingdom and fulfilling God’s purpose for your life resides not so much in what you do, but as in how you do it.
It does not matter if God gave you a large role or a tiny one to do for His Kingdom; You can still have an impact if you can learn to do one thing — to love people in whatever circumstance you find yourself in. Why? Because love lasts. Because love never fails. Because love does not envy, and it never boasts. It is neither proud nor rude. Love is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes. Love never gives up. God is love. Love, in fact, is the hardest, most powerful thing in the world. Whether driving a child to school, caring for an elderly parent, cleaning a bathroom, heading up a multinational corporation, helping a stranger, or washing feet, love is the secret to making a lasting impact.
We do not have to do extravagant things to show love, because there is a power of loving people in practical ways. A perfect example of this is a story that was told by Mother Teresa:
“Some of my sisters work in Australia, and on a reservation, among the Aborigines, there was an elderly man. I can assure you that you have never seen a situation as difficult as that poor old man’s. He was completely ignored by everyone. His home was disordered and dirty.
I told him, “Please, let me clean your house, wash your clothes, and make your bed.” He answered, “I’m okay like this. Let it be.” I said again, “You will be still better if you allow me to do it.”
He finally agreed. So I was able to clean his house and wash his clothes. I discovered a beautiful lamp, covered with dust. Only God knows how many years had passed since he last lit it.
I said to him, “Don’t you light your lamp? Don’t you ever use it?”
He answered, “No. No one comes to see me. I have no need to light it. Who would I light it for?”
I asked, “Would you light it every night if the sisters came?”
He replied, “Of course.”
From that day on the sisters committed themselves to visiting him every evening. We cleaned the lamp, and the sisters would light it every evening.
Two years passed. I had completely forgotten that man. He sent this message: “Tell my friend that the light she lit in my life continues to shine still.”
I thought it was a very small thing. We often neglect small things.”
We all need to ask God today for the grace to be mindful of the things that seem too small to capture our attention, and to help us slow down and recognize the opportunities He is giving us right now to make a lasting impact in this world through showing the power of His love to other people.
Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, thank you for sending Your Precious Son, Jesus, who showed us how to live, love and serve others. Forgive me for the opportunities that I have missed to love others by serving them . Give me a heart of a servant so that I never miss a chance to share with others my time, talent and treasures. I know how important it is to You that we serve others because Jesus said that in the Kingdom of Heaven, many who are first will be last and the last will be first. (Matthew 19:30). Help me to love my neighbor as myself because Jesus also told us that after the greatest commandment, which is to love The Lord Our God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength, the second greatest commandment is that we love our neighbor as ourself. (Matthew 22:37-39). Show me what that looks like today. In the Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
