A Mistaken Scheme
Luke 12:19
And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
This man had it going for himself, but he made several mistakes. Listen to his conversation, “I have much goods laid up for many days.” Who in here really can say I have many days? Because your time may be up today. It’s never good to think we have a long time to live since God is the controller of our lives. I hope we’re here for the next fifty years, but it’s not a sure thing. I really think the man was a workaholic. Have you ever seen folk like that? They work so much that they miss life. They work twenty years, day and night, two or three jobs, and say, “One of these days, I’m going to be able to enjoy life.” But you can work your whole life and never have the privilege of enjoying life. You work all your life stacking up, storing up, and somebody else will spend your money. Moreover they will forget you in the next two or three days. Sometimes you ought to stop and just have some fun for you. You ought to stop every once in a while and realize God has blessed you for you to enjoy what he has blessed you with. Enjoy yourself spiritually while you’re able.
Just as sure as you have a day, night is coming, Logic tells you if there is a start then there is a finish. This man had made it good; he was rich. But the Lord called him a fool. Now it doesn’t make a lot of difference if you call me a fool, because you might call a person anything. But when God says it, you can write it down because that’s what you are. Psalm 53:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. When you forget God, you’re a fool. You have everything else around you, but if you don’t pen God into your life, you are nothing but a fool. What does it profit a man if he gained the whole world and then turns around and loses his own soul?
