A Remarkable Weapon
Matthew 14:23
And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
When he had sent the multitudes away. If you are going somewhere, there are some folk you have to leave behind, because if you try to hang around with certain crowds you won’t go and neither will they. If you’re going somewhere and a person doesn’t want to go with you, let them stay. Invite them to come, but don’t let them stop you from making it to the other side. There’s a person over there I must see, an unusual person. With one arm he reached prayer from earth all the way to heaven. With the other arm he reached grace from heaven all the way down to man. With one leg he stands on time and the other on eternity. He can turn around and get so little until he can get in my heart and have me loving my enemies. I want to see the man that can take red blood and put it on a black heart and wash it whiter than snow. So I’m not going to let anything hinder me from going to the other side.
Jesus sent the disciples out on a ship and went up to the mountains to pray. If the Son of God prayed, then how about you? If God who has all power, knows everything, and is everywhere at the same time prayed, then we ought to pray. Prayer is an unusual weapon. Prayer is the greatest weapon any saint can have. When you cannot be victorious any other way, just pray, because prayer will change things. Prayer will change people, prayer will change conditions, and prayer will change the prayer. If you pray you’ll feel better. That’s why you need to pray for your enemies. If a person mistreats you, it’s hard to get on your knees and pray for him and still shoot him. Something will happen to you while you’re on your knees. The average person that messes up is a person that didn’t pray first. If you pray in the calm you can handle the storm.
