The Storm Didn’t Stop Jesus
Matthew 14:25
And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
The fourth watch is about three or four o’clock in the morning. Can you imagine how hard they been toiling from evening to 3 o’clock. All of these disciples are drenched with water. Their eyes are red and their muscles are sore; fear and panic is all over them. Some say that the darkest hour is just before dawn. That’s the time folk commit suicide, just an hour before daylight. It’s just a few feet from the other side of the tunnel, and folk decide to give up before going through. It’s a critical hour in the life of any person. When it come to getting out of situations, don’t give up too soon. You’ve got to keep on fighting, keep on going forward. It was a trying time in the storm.
In contrast, I see the tranquillity in the storm. The Bible says that Jesus went unto them. I like that because any time a storm shows up in your life, Jesus will show up. It’s kind of like some folk that seem to smell what you are cooking all the way from the other side of town. They show up at the same time you get the food done. Or a friend you haven’t heard from in six months shows up the same time your check arrives in the mail. All of a sudden, there they are. Likewise that’s the way Jesus does during our trouble. When storms come, Jesus will show up.
I like that about Jesus. He knows how much you can bear. He does just the opposite of what your friends do. When trouble comes your friends diminish to few. They watch their caller ID and see if it’s you and then they don’t answer. But not so with the Lord. When trouble showed up, Jesus came walking on the sea. Now that’s the impossible; nobody can walk on water. But Jesus did. I think Jesus was saying, “I don’t care where you are, I can get to you. You can be in the valley, or in your sick bed; but wherever you are, you are still in reach of me.”
