Isaiah 34:16
Seek ye out of the book of the Lord, and read.
In my early years of life, I was very poor at reading, spelling, and pronouncing words. I’ve never wanted to be any less than the best that God had for me. So after the Lord called me to preach I knew I had to spend a lot of time in books to reach the level that God wanted for me. So I took it upon myself to read at least a book a week, usually a book pertaining to the word of God. I believe that if you are going to do God’s will you should put forth every effort to make his plan come true. I promised God and myself that if He gave me strength to work forty hours a week for myself then I would work at least forty hours a week for him. I have taken this preaching business very seriously. I don’t have any play time or time to joke and to jest but I am to be serious about the work of the Kingdom.
One of the ways for me to encourage the congregation that God had placed in my hands was to be studious myself. A follower will never study if the leader doesn’t take time to interpret the written word. Consequently every sermon that I have preached was above all to inspire the people to dig in to the Word. There are unique nuggets in the Bible designated only for you, the believers of Christ.
In my process of reading and studying, I ran across what are called the best sellers, books that have circled the world, but eventually the best seller disappears. You enjoy reading it once or twice but then it gets old. But this book that I want to share with you becomes newer and newer the more times you read it. It is the believer’s manual. It’s a manual that you don’t have to look too far to find. It has been here and the writing has not changed. It is the same today as it was yesterday. Just as a car manual tells you everything you need to know about the automobile, the Word of God helps us to know how to survive and excel as a follower of Christ in this world.
