Pages Filled With Purpose
Isaiah 34:16
Seek ye out of the book of the Lord, and read.
What is the purpose of the book? Its purpose is to introduce to us Jesus. Without the book you wouldn’t know who Jesus really was. You wouldn’t know the will of God, the way of God, or the work of God. And you would not know the worth of yourself. So this book was designed with the purpose that we might know Him. You want to know the kind of person who would leave the bosom of his father and come down to a sinful world. This Jesus left comfort and came to condemnation. He came from favor to fury. He came from majesty to misery. He came from praises to pain. And he came down for us. He came down so we could go up. He became poor for us to become rich. He suffered disgrace so we could have amazing grace.
You ought to want to know him. And when you read this book you get a chance to know something about the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. You see God the Father is behind us; Jesus is ahead of us; the Holy Ghost is in us. Donated at Bethlehem. Demonstrated at Calvary, but illustrated at Pentecost. Bethlehem is God with us. Calvary is God for us. But Pentecost is God in us. Each time I read the Word I get to know Him a little better.
When I know him I discover my insufficiency. I discover how nothing I am. Without knowing him I would leave thinking I was somebody. But when I discover who He is and who I am, I am just blessed to know Him. We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. I deserve death. By getting to know him, I discovered what He did for me. The Lord stood in my stead. He gave me his righteousness and took my rags. Romans 3:25 Whom God has set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God. Know Him!
