Overtaken
Galatians 6:1
Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
Satan sits back and watches the stuff that can get you. He checks you out. He checks your pulse to see what it is that makes your heart beat faster. He watches the books you read and observes the movies you watch. He searches out your weak spot. You think nobody knows except you, but Satan knows where your weak spots are and he begins setting up traps. Beware of the wiles of the devil because he’s a tricky scoundrel. So he starts baiting your hook with stuff you like and keeps throwing it right at you. It doesn’t take much to get some people.
But the devil has patience. He doesn’t give up like people do. We may try once or twice to do something, and if we fail, we sit down, but the devil keeps going. Maybe he didn’t get you this week, this month, or last year, but he keeps trying. A good fighter keeps going back hitting at the same spot. When the opponent knows he’s getting you, you start flinching. He got you there and he keeps going back.
He watches you when you get lazy and feel like hanging around the house one Sunday. The devil says, “Uh hmm.” He marks it down. He jots it down when you miss a couple of days reading your Bible. He writes it down when you jump up in the bed without first praying. Folk used to disappoint you and you went right on, but now he sees you sitting a little depressed because you were let down. He makes himself a note. Then he brings pressure on top of pressure in your life and he sees you weakening down. Instead of reading the Lord’s word, you look for a book or a movie. Then the devil throws the bait at you again and you nibble at his hook. Finally, you take the bait. That’s why as a saved person you must stay strong in the Lord and in the power of his might because the devil keeps going.
