Our Excellent Example

Isaiah 53:5

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

While Jesus was hanging on the cross, there were those around who rejoiced because they thought it was over for Jesus. Many people hope that you fail in life. They don’t think you’ll last. But when you are in the God movement, you can literally be on the cross and God will raise you up. Jesus said, “I’ll come and die for the sins of mankind.” He hung on the cross bleeding from his hands, his forehead, his feet, and his back If he was willing to suffer and die for me, the least I can do is live for him.

Oh he died for me I tell you. And every time I get a little slow and a little lazy about doing what God wants me to do, my mind goes straight back to Calvary. Every time I want to throw in the towel and give up, that spirit shouts back, “But you know he died for you.” When I’m ready to curse out somebody that mistreated me, my mind goes back to Calvary first. If you think about what He did for you at Calvary, you will straighten up your act.

The Bible says, And when they brought him to the place. To the place of shame. To the pace of criticism. To the place of anguish. To the place of heartache and heart break. There they crucified my Lord on the cross. Usually during a crucifixion, the person who was dying would die cursing. He would die arguing and fussing. Sometimes he would even spit on his accusers. We don’t see Jesus doing any of these things while He was hanging on the cross. He wasn’t blaming others or complaining about his hurts and aches. No, no, He’s praying. Calvary wasn’t designed for a prayer place, but Jesus told us that you can pray anywhere. How does his prayer begin? Father. That’s not strange for him because he kept his father’s name on his lips. His thoughts never left the Father. What an example for us!
