Chariot Of Mercy

Chariot Of Mercy
Luke 23:34
Then said Jesus, Father forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
Forgive them. Them is really a chariot of mercy. Every one of us had to fit in the chariot. Jesus prayed for you on Calvary’s cross. Isn’t that something, Jesus is dying yet He’s concerned about the folks that are killing him? One of the greatest blessings a person can have is that of being forgiven. When you know you’ve been forgiven, it’s like a weight lifted off you. You can handle life better when you know you’ve been forgiven. You may think you haven’t sinned in a long time. We like to stop at just five little old sins, but there are 113 recorded sins in the Bible and you can add to that list. There is the sin of co-mission. There is sin of omission. There is sin of being ungrateful. There’s a sin of having a proud look. If you got up this morning, you have committed sin. There are too many for you to miss.
But thank God at Calvary, Jesus prayed for our sin. He said, “Father forgive them for they know not what they are doing.” It sounds like an excuse for the sin. But Jesus, “I saw them put thorns on your head. They knew what they were doing. Jesus, I saw them nail your hands and feet. They had to know the pain that caused. They knew you would die.” Jesus said, “Well that’s not really what I’m saying. They didn’t know whose head it was. They knew that they were nailing hands, but they did not know it was the hand that touched blinded eyes so they could see and healed sick bodies. They did not know it was the hand that could turn lunch baskets into banquets.
They were sinning out of ignorance. There are some things that we do, and we ought to know what we are doing. But when you really know what you are doing, sin starts to stink in your nostrils. Because every time you sin, it is against God. Whenever you commit the tiniest sin, it is against the person that died for you. Receive His mercy.
