Consecrated Trust
Psalm 86:2
Preserve my soul; for I am holy: O thou my God, save thy servant that trusteth in thee.
The psalmist says, “Preserve my soul because I am holy and I trust in you.” He is saying, “Watch over me because I am living in a godly manner and I am trusting in you.” Now that’s a good combination. The reason he is holy is because he is trusting in the Lord. And the reason he can trust in the Lord is because he is holy. If you’re going to be a Christian, your job is to please God. You can try again and again to please other folk and they will never be satisfied no matter how hard you try. You can crawl on the ground and they will tell you to walk. You walk and they tell you to crawl on the ground. If you laugh, they tell you that you ought to frown. If you frown they tell you that you ought to laugh. If you’re jolly, they complain that you are too happy. If you’re not jolly, you are criticized for looking mean all the time.
Since I know that I cannot satisfy folk, I have made up in my mind who I’m going to satisfy and that’s God himself. Romans 12:1 tell us, I beseech ye therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, and acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
How am I going to satisfy the Lord? By trusting in Him. No matter how dark it gets, remember this—there are fringe benefits when you trust in the Lord. Hebrews 11:6 says without faith it’s impossible to please Him for he that comes to God must believe. In other words you’ve got to trust Him. So whatever you must deal with now or in the future, keep trusting in the Lord. If you’re out of work, trust in God. If the doctor says you won’t live, trust in God. If your family packs up and walks away, trust in God, since the God I serve will hear. Hold to Psalm 86:7 In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.
