Repel The Repressive
Luke 9:30
And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias.
Luke said, “Jesus went to the mountain to pray” Why did He go to pray? Well He was just a few days from Calvary and when you’re getting ready to go and give your life for your enemies, you need to make sure you’re headed in the right direction. Even when you know you are traveling down the right road, you still need some encouragement.
Now there are some folk who wouldn’t encourage you if their life depended on it. When a person is miserable and sad they want everybody to be miserable and sad. Every time they talk, they have a sad conversation. They are always talking negative stuff. However, when you’re in a storm, somebody needs to tell you it won’t last forever. So Jesus went to be encouraged.
While on the mount, two men showed up, Moses and Elijah, neither of whom had lived ordinary lives or died ordinary deaths. Moses had spent eighty years of his life in preparation to do forty years of difficult work that he didn’t particularly want to do. Most of us spend forty days in preparation to do eighty years of work. In the end, he allowed the folk he was leading to get on his nerves and God did not allow Moses to lead them into the promised land.
Elijah was a champion. He decided to do something out of the extraordinary. He walked down to King Ahab’s palace with bugs in his hair and mud gushing from his toes and said, “As the Lord God liveth there shall be no dew nor rain until I give you word.” And for three years and six months there was no dew or rain. But in spite of all the stuff he had going for him, he let one woman run him out of town. After Jezebel heard how bad he was, she sent a note telling Elijah to leave town or die. Elijah ran to the valley and asked the Lord to kill him. Don’t allow people to discourage you to the point where you miss what God has in store for you.
