An Image Of The Father

Luke 9:32

But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.

While they were on the mountain, Jesus was changed, transfigured, or transformed. Now Jesus already had divinity, but it was covered with humanity. John 1:1 says in the beginning was the Word. A word is actually a thought that’s been formulated into speech. Jesus said, “If you really want to know how God looks, look at me. If you want to know how God loves, watch how I love. If you want to know the power that my Father has, watch me raise folk from the dead.” The Bible tells us in Genesis that God will provide Himself. In other words, He was going to wrap Himself up in human flesh and present himself as a lamb. And part of that came out on Mt. Herman when He was transfigured. Luke tried to describe what happened that day. He said it was an experience that you have never witnessed before. There are no words in the vocabulary that can describe how Jesus looked. He was white and shining and glittering and glowing.

While all of this was going on, Peter woke up and saw Moses, Elijah, and Jesus. Peter said, “It’s good to be here.” I’m praying for the day when I can come to church and folk walk in and act like it’s good to be here. We forget about yesterday’s problems and the things we’ve got to face tomorrow. Anywhere Jesus is, that’s a good place to be.

While Jesus was speaking, a cloud came down and a voice spoke, “This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased.” You see Moses and Elijah came just to encourage Jesus. And the Bible says that when the cloud disappeared there was nobody there but Jesus only. I wonder what happened to Moses and Elijah. If you’ve been leaning on somebody other than Jesus, one of these days they are going to disappear. Jesus alone was left with them.
