No Skeletons In The Closet

Luke 1:6

And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

The scene opens with the parents of one of the legends of the New Testament. I was impressed when I read the resume of the parents of this fellow named John. You don’t hear a lot about Zacharias or Elisabeth, but they were people well bedded in the Word of God. So often when you read the resume of certain people, you discover that they have a lot of baggage that’s been hidden. But it is a breath of fresh air when you can finally find a couple that loves and serves the Lord. In most cases you’ll find one out of two. And in some homes there is no righteousness around the house at all. So when you can find a husband and a wife that are both living for the Lord, what a joy it is! It will be a sweet flight to heaven having husband and wife walking hand in hand in fellowship with God.

The Bible tells us how blessed this family really was. It says they were both righteous. And the text distinctly says they were righteous before God. Many people are righteous before God. There are a lot of people that are righteous before you. A lot of people will be righteous on their jobs. If you would get the right blood hound on their trail, you will come up with headed skeletons. You will see halos over their heads.

God is certainly the person that we should try to please. It is not your fellow man, because you want to please all of them any way. But you must make sure that you have the right relationship with God. And God is calling for holiness. God is calling for righteous living. No person should get comfortable in an unrighteous situation. No person should be satisfied if you’re not living righteously for the Lord, because it has a way of slow walking us down. Elizabeth and Zacharias will go down in history as being righteous people.
