Hold Fast The Name
Revelation 2:13
…and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith…
In spite of where you are, hold fast to the name of Jesus. You see there are those now that cruise around too sophisticated to call the name of Jesus. Folk don’t mind you going to civic meetings and singing, “How Great Thou Art.” You know when people consider the stars, the moon, and the atmosphere they know how great Thou art. But when you verbalize, “In the name of Jesus.” you upset some folk. They would rather you didn’t call the name Jesus. I’ve been called to visit with family members who have somebody in their family that cannot accept the divinity of Jesus. When I begin to pray in Jesus’ name, they head to the other room. Even if their family member dies, they’ll stand outside the building during the funeral because they can’t stand the name Jesus.
This is really the way it is with the devil. He can’t stand the name Jesus. You see, when you start calling His name, you move to a higher plateau. A man, who was flying around in his airplane, looked back in the cockpit and saw a snake getting ready to strike him. He called headquarters and asked if he should try to land although he was quite a distance from the runway. Control said, “Oh no, don’t come down. Point the plane upward.” The snake began to lie still. Control said, “Keep on going upward,” and the pilot went up a little higher. The snake began to lose its hold. Control said, “Go on up,” and the old snake just flipped over. Satan can’t stand to go toward Jesus. Whenever you call the name Jesus, you’re heading up! You’re heading away from the devil and out of his striking distance. Jesus told the church at Pergamos they had done well to hold fast to His Name in all they did.
