The White Stone

Revelation 2:17

To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

To him that overcomes will I give to eat the hidden manna. You remember the manna that fell down during the days of Moses when Israel was hungry and there was nothing to eat. This manna represented Jesus Christ. First of all, the manna came from heaven; this represented the fact that Jesus came from Heaven. Secondly, the manna was white symbolizing the purity of Jesus. Thirdly, the manna was sweet typifying the sweet smelling Savior. Then fourthly the manna was round representing the immortality of Jesus Christ. Fifthly, the manna fell on the ground depicting the humanity of Jesus. Sixth, the manna was eaten representing the fact that Jesus is the bread of life. If you overcome, Jesus is waiting especially for you.

Then he says I will give him a white stone. Now that white stone may not mean much to you, but listen to what that stone really represents. In those days whenever a man committed a crime he had to go to court. A judge placed a black stone and a white stone in a container. If the judge took out the black stone, the man had been found guilty and received a death sentence. But if the judge brought out the white stone, it meant that man was acquitted. And just that alone is enough to make me buck and shout because you see I know without the shadow of a doubt if I’d been tried, a black stone would come out of my container. But thanks be to the God I serve, he put a white stone in that container on my behalf. One of these mornings when the wicked have ceased from troubling and the weary are at rest, when I bid farewell to every fear and I walk up to the gates, I’ll have my white stone with a new name written inside.
