Help In Handling Temptation

Luke 4:14

And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee…

You must be a Son of God in order to overcome temptation. You must be born again. Your flesh cannot overpower the devil. It is simple to become a son of God. Romans 10:9 says, “That if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thine heart that God has raised him from the dead thou shall be saved.

2) You must be submitted to God. God said, This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased. Is God pleased with your life? God is keeping your record. Are you submitted to the cause of Christ? Do you keep working for him in spite of a broken heart or when you are lied on?

3) You must be spiritually filled. Jesus was full of the Holy Ghost, Luke 4:14, Jesus returned in the power of the spirit. Luke 4:18 The spirit of the Lord was upon him. Jesus didn’t deal with temptation as a God. He dealt with Satan as a man filled with the Holy Ghost. You see when filled with the spirit you have an unusual power. The devil can’t steal your spirit or pick the word out of your mind.

4) You must depend on the scripture. Jesus used the Word. You’ve got to study the Word, meditate on the Word and know the Word.

5) You must be satisfied. If you’re satisfied with Jesus the devil cannot find an itch to scratch you. If I’m in a one-room shack and God gave it to me I ought to be happy. Find contentment in your present circumstances.

6) Remember to pray. No matter how you’re troubled, learn how to pray. The devil really can’t stand to see you on your knees, because a Christian is a powerful person down on their knees. Become a person of prayer.

Then when temptation hits, remember to look beyond temptation and see the guilt. Before you yield, look around and see the good things. Look up and see the grace. And look inward and see the goal.
