Natural Yet Very Un-Natural
Hebrews 9:27
And as it is appointed unto men once to die…
Jesus’ life was so unusual. On one side He was tired, but on the other side, He says to you, “Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” He was human, but He was also divine. He was so human that He walked through doors, but so divine that He said, “I am the Door.” So human that He played with rocks, but so divine that He said, “I am the Rock of Ages.” So human that He drank water, but so divine that He said, “In me is a well of Living Water.” So human that He died, but so divine that He said, “I am the Resurrection and the Life.” So human that He ate bread, but So divine that He said, “I am the Bread of Life.”
Jesus was an unusual character in His life. Nobody suffered like Jesus. Jesus suffered so much, until even the Father turned His back. I heard Him say, “My God why has thou forsaken me?” He suffered so until He didn’t want us to see how much He actually suffered. While He was on Calvary’s cross, He touched the sun and put it out. Isaiah is the only prophet that came close to telling us what really happened. He said, (Isaiah 53:5) “He was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement of our peace was upon Him, but with His stripes we are healed.” Nobody suffered like Him.
Nobody died like Jesus. His death was natural, unnatural, pre-told natural, and supernatural. It was natural because He died. It’s natural for any man to die. It was unnatural because He died without committing a sin. And that’s unnatural because the wages of sin is death. So it’s unnatural to die and never commit sin. It was pre-told natural because it was pre-determined before He was born. We were born to live, but Jesus was actually born to die. But His death was supernatural because even though He died, He got up without any effort on His part!
