A Divine Diversion

Exodus 3:4

And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

The Bible says Moses turned. This could mean that Moses was inquisitive, that he saw something he had never seen before, but I really think that Moses was focused on God. Most of us are too busy to turn aside. God is speaking to us every day but we don’t turn aside. We’re busy doing our own thing. You see when you get by yourself you have time to focus on God. Sometimes we have too many people around us for God to talk to us. Or we stay on the phone all day and half the night. Sometimes you should hang up your phone and turn off the television. Put the dog out of the house and have a chance to turn aside and let God talk to you. The Bible says Moses turned aside.

When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush. God didn’t talk until Moses decided to listen. God isn’t going to just throw his Word out for no reason at all. He’s too busy to just throw his Word away. You can’t have thirty minutes and say “I’m going to see what I can pick up in these thirty minutes and then I’ll take it and live by it.” No, it must be a full time business. Either you’re with the Lord or you’re not with the Lord. Either you are going to serve him or you aren’t going to serve him. You can’t do God like you do a sandwich, drive by and pick you up one in a hurry. You’ve got to take time. As a matter of fact, you need to meditate day and night. If you aren’t praying, you ought to be reading, if you’re not reading, you ought you to be praying. If you’re working two or three jobs and don’t have time for the Lord, you need to cut back something and give God some time, because one of these days the stuff you’re working for is not going to make any difference. God will be the only one that will really count in life.
