the Lord is our Peace

Key scripture- “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me” (Psalm 23:4a).

Did you know that in the trials that you go through the peace that God gives you is actually a weapon?

Each day we face problems and people who can rob us of our peace, such as: financial problems, a cranky boss, health problems, deadlines, family relationships – all create stress on us. But if you area Christian, your confidence is in the God of peace, therefore, you already have spiritual authority over these problems, and you have peace in spite of your circumstances.

One of God’s Name’s is, Yahweh Shalom, which means, The Lord is Peace. This Name is important if you are in a trial right now and you feel like you are being tossed and turned, going back and forth with all kind of bad scenarios in your mind, and you can’t get a good nights sleep because you keep waking up and milling over your problems and saying to yourself, “How am I going to handle this? What am I gonna do? I don’t know what to do, this is going to destroy me. I don’t know if I can go forward. I am afraid to face tomorrow.”

Since the Lord is our Peace, we can all get to the place where no matter what is going on, we can have peace because we are walking with God, and when we do that we will not have any fear from our circumstances because we will fear no evil. In order to find out how we get to the point in our life where we have peace because we fear no evil, we need to look at David’s life to see how he did it.

While David was a young Shepherd, he faced a lion, a bear, and a giant, named Goliath (1Samuel 17: 23, 32, 36-37), and in Psalm 23:4 he tells us that when he stood in the “shadow of death” itself, he “feared no evil.” The reason why David could say that he “feared no evil” is because his trust was completely in the Lord. God had already safely brought David through a battle with a lion, bear and a giant, therefore, David knew from experience that God was always with him and that is why He could say “…for Thou art with me.”

You can have the same peace and be free of fear just like David, because God is with you too. Every adversity you face, no matter what it is, will unfold in victory as you maintain your faith and trust in God!

If you want to see what that kind of faith and trust in God looks like, all you need to do is look at David’s faith in God. It was so strong and he was so sure of what God would do for him that David didn’t run from his enemies, instead in Psalm 23:5 he actually sat down at the table that God had prepared for him while he was surrounded by his enemies, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies”, because David knew that God would take care of all his needs and fill his cup with grace “anoint his head with oil, my cup overflows”. David had faith to keep trusting God, and believing His promises, especially while he was smack dab in the middle of his trial, while he was completely surround by trouble and by his enemies.

Like David, God uses the trials and problems in your life to feed you. They will be used to nourish and build you up spiritually, and you will be able to look back and say that because of the trial, and what God showed you during that trial, you have tasted and seen that the Lord is good.

If fear has been knocking at your door, sit down at the table that God has prepared for you in His Word, and you will be able to face that fear with God’s peace. The peace that you get from God is the secret weapon to destroy all fear.

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, You are my peace. I know that when my heart is in turmoil all that I need to do is get alone with You and get on my knees and say, Our Father in Heaven, You are the Lord my Peace. You are the one who calms the troubled waters in me. When I wake up in the night, instead of worrying, I will cry out to You, Yahweh Shalom. I don’t need to get up every morning and think that I need to make it all work, because You are the One who makes it all work, You are my Peace. You bring calm when there is disturbance in my soul. You bring rest when I cannot sleep. I know that the peace of God, a peace that is beyond any and all human understanding will stand watch over my heart and mind. (Philippians 4:7). I will not let anyone or anything steal my peace. I pray this in the Name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, Amen.
