God’s Protection

Extended time in the sun can be harmful and even fatal, especially on a long journey during which people need to maintain energy and health (vv. 5–6).

In the exodus from Egypt, God provided the Israelites with cloud cover by day and firelight by night. This same God shades these exposed travelers, protecting them from physical, spiritual, and de monic dangers.

The psalm closes with the firm conviction that a covenant-keeping God stands guard over his own no matter their sojourn.
