The Sovereign LORD is my strength;

  Laura Ingle

Key scripture – “The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights” (Habakkuk 3:19).

When you are thrown into suffering for a period of time, or your enemies are prospering while you are just barely getting by, do you wonder about the equity of God and life?

Habakkuk affirms for us that because God is God, no matter what we are going through, He makes it so that we are able to scale the mountains of adversity. All that you need to do is be still, and know He is at work, and that He will fight for you today.

When Habakkuk says “He makes my feet like the feet of a deer.” The deer is an animal that has springing ease, and is light and bounding with gracefulness as it clears every obstacle, and sweeps swiftly over all kind of terrain. When The Lord is our strength we go through our day with steps that are light and easy, with an elastic gait to run the race before us. What a contrast that is to when we try to do it in our own strength and we end up going through each day, plod, plod, plod, in a heavy-footed, spiritless grind, like we have a pound of wet clay stuck to our shoes.

In addition to being light footed, God also equips us to scale the heights even in the midst of great challenges. He enables us to go to the higher places with Him where we are set apart from the world. It is like when you see deer on a mountain ridge, they are at home up there, far above danger and attacks; able to keep their footing on cliff and precipice and one wave of the hand, and they are miles away. If we will keep ourselves in simple, loving fellowship with God in Christ on a daily basis, even when ‘the fig-tree does not blossom, and there is no fruit in the vine,’ He will lift us up, and we can travel on life’s circumstances in cheerful godliness. Your communion with God will make you light-footed, and lift you high, no matter where you are or what you are doing. Sometimes the way you have to go to get there is through suffering and sorrow, but if you rest in Him, you commit your ways to Him, and trust Him, you will come out where He wants you to be, and all things, not some things, but all things will work together for your good.

This is why the Holy Spirit has been sent to live in us, in order for us to be able to scale the mountain of adversity that is before us with a new form of power that we would never be able to experience without Him. Jesus told us about this power when He said, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8). The power that Jesus is referring to that lives in us is the same power that raised Him from the grave. Do you understand how awesome and powerful that type of power is? If you really understand that then you will never ever fear anything again.

Today if you find yourself in a place of doubting God and His plan for your life, because of your circumstances, I want you to know that God’s plans for you are for good not evil for a future and hope. God has also given all followers of Jesus power through the Holy Spirit, in order for you to accomplish the tasks that lie ahead as you tread upon the high places where you will be on top of the enemy and your circumstances.

So what are you waiting for, Ask The Lord to give you wisdom so that you truly understand the power that lives in you, and that the Holy Spirit strengthen you today and enable you to achieve the heights for which God has created you.

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, help me to truly understand that the same power that rose Jesus from the grave, the same power that commanded the dead to wake, the same power that commanded the wind and the waves to be still, lives in me. I have nothing to fear because of the awesome power of the Spirit in me. That is why You tell is in Your Word, Greater is He that is living in me than He that is in the world. (1 John 4:4). You have already conquered my enemies, therefore, I am more than a conqueror, not just a conqueror, but more than one. (Romans 8:37). The Lord God Almighty is Your name. You are more powerful than the thunder of mighty rivers, more powerful than the mighty waves in the ocean, You are the One who orders the sun to give light to the day, the One who directs the moon and the stars to light the night, the One who stirs up the sea so its waves churn and roar. I know that You and only You enable me to mount on wings like eagles, to run and not grow weary, to walk and not grow faint. (Isaiah 40:31). And one day, I know that I will hear You say, ‘Come up higher, my Sweet Child, it is time for you to come home’, and I will be lifted up to live with You forever in eternity. What a glorious day that will be! In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
