Walk in the light of the Lord
Laura Ingle Key scripture- “O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the Lord” (Isaiah 2:5).
Do you let things distract you from focusing your life on the presence and person of God?
The people of Israel had been distracted. They were “full of things from the east, and of fortune tellers like the Philistines” (Isaiah 2: 6); and “their land is filled with silver and gold” and “filled with horses and…chariots” (v. 7) and “filled with idols; they bow down to the work of their hands what their fingers have made” (v.
Some of their distractions were clearly ungodly—occultism from the east and idolatry. Other distractions were not wrong in themselves—wealth and power—but it made them feel independent and self-sufficient and removed their awareness that they needed God.
However, the things that were clearly ungodly (occultism and idolatry) and the things that were merely distractions (wealth and power) all worked together to draw God’s people away from their daily dependence on God Himself. They lost their sense of His presence, His nearness.
Do you hear the Lord’s invitation to you today through Isaiah telling you, “Let us walk in the light of the Lord?” Have financial pressures or financial success distracted you from God? Is your social schedule squeezing God out? Are TV shows or the internet using up the time you might spend with God? At the end of life, when we truly see God as He is, we will know that nothing else in life was worth ignoring Him. Clear something off of your schedule today and start spending some time walking in the light with God.
What is distracting you from focusing your life on the presence and person of God? In order to regain your focus on Him start by getting up thirty minutes earlier each morning and get alone with God, pray, and read His Word. If you are not sure how to pray or what to pray about, ask the Holy Spirit to show you how to pray, then open God’s Word and go to the Psalms and pray His Word back to Him, and ask Him to give you the wisdom and understanding on how to apply this to your life. You will be amazed at what it does for you and how it will change you for the better to start your day with God, the Creator of the Heavens and the earth.
Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, help me to keep the right perspective regarding what is truly important, which is; You, and only You, because You are God and I am not. I am here to serve you and bring glory to You. Forgive me for letting the pressure and things of this world squeeze You out. You are my portion; therefore, I will wait for You. My hope is in You, and I seek You. Father, give me the wisdom and strength to walk after You, obey You, and hold fast to You. (Deuteronomy 13:4). I will serve You with a fervent enthusiastic spirit and walk in the light of the Lord, therefore, I proclaim: “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15). In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
