Sharpen Each Other
Key scripture – “Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17).
Don’t just work on your own spiritual life, open your heart and help build up the spiritual lives of those around you!
The Bible is full of guidance on how we can grow much faster if we share in each others’ spiritual growth. When we get together with other believers, we can play a major part in helping them walk more closely with the Lord.
…
God wants you to learn to use your times with your brothers and sisters in Christ to encourage them spiritually, to motivate them in their times with God and in prayer, to discuss ways to more effectively share Christ with others, to serve them and help them. We miss out on so much potential growth when we don’t do this.
When we are hanging out with other believers, all we need to do is simply add a relaxed spiritual discussion to our hanging out, then we will leave that time together encouraged in the Lord. And if we add a brief prayer time at the end, we will deepen our spiritual relationship with each other and the Lord even more.
Who will you see today that you could ask about what God is teaching them, or pray together, or share about what you got from the Word today? Ask God to use you when you get together to strengthen them spiritually.
Pray this – My Precious Heavenly Father, I want to thank You for the Christian brothers and sisters that You have blessed me with. It is so comforting to be able to call out to them when I need prayers, to be there for them to hold them up in prayer, to support them, and to have someone to praise You with. A perfect example of how we should support each other is when the Israelites were in a battle with Amalek, and Moses was standing over the battle holding up the staff of God, however, he grew weary and did not have strength to keep holding up his hands and the staff on his own. That is when Aaron and Hur came along side of him and they helped him hold up his arms and the Israelites won the battle. “Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, and whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. And Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the sword.” (Exodus 17:11-13). Father, put me in people’s lives when they are in a battle, and they are tired and weary like Moses, so that I can come along side them and be Jesus’ hands, feet, and voice and help hold them up, strengthen them, and encourage them so that they keep walking in faith and they don’t give up in the battle. In the Name of Jesus, who is always there to strengthen and support me, I pray Amen.
