Be the Light
Key scripture – “John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light” (John 5:35).
Did you know that the only reason why you can see the moon is because it reflects the light of the sun. It has no qualities by itself to reflect its beauty on its own. Without the sun shining onto its surface, you and I would never see the moon. It would simply be a dark object in the sky.
Jesus came to bring the light of His love and grace to each of us. H…owever, we are born into a world dulled by the sin created by Adam and Eve that makes our lives dark until we meet Jesus. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…” (Rom 3:23-24). Jesus contrasted in many parables that those who allow His life to live in them will live in the light amidst darkness. “Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is bad, your body is full of darkness. Therefore be careful lest the light in you be darkness. If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly bright, as when a lamp with its rays gives you light.” (Luke 11:34-36).
When you invite Jesus Christ to live in your heart it is as though a light is shining upon your life in order to reflect the glory of God’s Son through you. Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12).
By calling Himself the light, Jesus is saying what He is Himself – most excellent and glorious, and what He is to the world – the fountain of light, enlightening every man.
Jesus calls you to be a vessel to reflect the brilliant light of His love to others. How have your reflective qualities been lately?
Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, I am Your vessel and I want to be filled so that Jesus’ love, which is a brilliant light, shines through me. Make my life a continual reflection of the light of Your love to others. Let me be the light that Jesus described in Matthew 5:14-16 so that You are glorified. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Father, I choose to follow Jesus, the true light, I choose to believe in Him, and walk in the light, not darkness. I choose to follow Your Word, which is “a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105). Show me how to reflect Your light today. “The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple. (Psalm 119:130). In the Precious Name of Jesus, Who is the Light of the world, I pray, Amen.
