Yes and No

Key scripture- “Again, you have heard that the ancients were told, ‘YOU SHALL NOT MAKE FALSE VOWS, BUT SHALL FULFILL YOUR VOWS TO THE LORD.’ But I say to you, make no oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is the footstool of His feet, or by Jerusalem, for it is THE CITY OF THE GREAT KING. Nor shall you make an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. But let your statement be, ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’; anything beyond these is of evil.” (Matthew 5:33-37).

If you always say what you mean, then you don’t need to make vows, because people will know they can trust your word!

Let your “yes” mean “yes” and let your “no” mean “no”. We only create problems for ourselves when we try to deceive one another or tell “white lies” or exaggerate or downplay a serious situation.

“Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.” (Proverbs 10:9).

If you are always honest and open about your statements and commitments, then you will have a reputation of credibility and people will know that they can take you at face value.

The Lord wants people to have confidence in you, because you represent Him. Is He calling you to speak with integrity in a certain situation in your life right now? Do it. Ask Him for the words and timing, and you will always speak the truth.

“For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints.” (Proverbs 2:6-8).

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, Your Word tells us how much you hate lying and that it is an abomination to You. I want to walk in integrity with You and with others. I want to live a life full of integrity. I want my “yes” to be “yes” and my “no” to be “no”. Forgive me for the times I have tried to justify the so called “white lies” that I have told. A lie is a lie, no matter what color we put on it. If we choose to sin, we choose to suffer, and that includes lying. Father, I ask that the Holy Spirit cleanse my heart of all lies and deception and lead me in paths of righteousness so that I walk upright and blameless, and I stand firm forever. I want to be known by You and everyone as a person of integrity. “But you have upheld me because of my integrity, and set me in your presence forever.” (Psalm 41:12). Father, fill me with Your wisdom. In the Name of Jesus I pray, amen.
