According to your faith

Key scripture- “And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, ‘Have mercy on us, Son of David.’ When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, ‘Do you believe that I am able to do this?’ They said to him, ‘Yes, Lord.’ Then he touched their eyes, saying, ‘According to your faith be it done to you.’ And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, ‘See that no one knows about it.’ But they went away and spread his fame through all that district” (Matthew 9:27-31).
Do you realize that we could all experience so much more of God’s power at work if we only trusted Him more.
“According to your faith be it done to you,” Jesus said this to those blind men and that is what he is saying to you today as you read this passage. So often in Jesus’ ministry he asked people, “Do you believe?” or He said “If you have faith”. The reason why Jesus said that is because He knows that God works in response to faith.
The passages below, show what Jesus said when He responded to someone’s faith and belief or lack thereof. As you read them, think about which ones He would say to you regarding your faith:
“When Jesus heard what had happened, he found the man and said, “Do you believe in the Messiah?” The man answered, “Who is he, sir, for I want to.” “You have seen him,” Jesus said, “and he is speaking to you!” “Yes, Lord,” the man said, “I believe!” And he worshiped Jesus” (John 9:35-38).
“Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the man, “My friend, your sins are forgiven” (Luke 5:20)!
Jesus said, “And tell him, ‘Blessed is the one who does not lose his faith in me’” (Luke 7:23).
Jesus said, “Anything is possible if you have faith.” The father instantly replied, “I do have faith; oh, help me to have more” (Mark 9:23-24)!
“Jesus replied, “Don’t you even yet know who I am, Philip, even after all this time I have been with you? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking to see him? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I say are not my own but are from my Father who lives in me. And he does his work through me. Just believe it—that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or else believe it because of the mighty miracles you have seen me do. “In solemn truth I tell you, anyone believing in me shall do the same miracles I have done, and even greater ones, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask him for anything, using my name, and I will do it, for this will bring praise to the Father because of what I, the Son, will do for you. Yes, ask anything, using my name, and I will do it” (John 14:9-12, 14)!
“Jesus stood there amazed! Turning to the crowd he said, “I haven’t seen faith like this in all the land of Israel! And I tell you this, that many Gentiles like this Roman officer, shall come from all over the world and sit down in the Kingdom of Heaven with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Then Jesus said to the Roman officer, “Go on home. What you have believed has happened!” And the boy was healed that same hour” (Matthew 8:10-13)!
“But Jesus answered, “O you men of little faith! Why are you so frightened?” Then he stood up and rebuked the wind and waves, and the storm subsided and all was calm” (Matthew 8:26).
“Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you” (Matthew 9:2).
“Jesus turned around and spoke to her. “Daughter,” he said, “all is well! Your faith has healed you.” And the woman was well from that moment” (Matthew 9:22).
“Then he touched their eyes and said, “Because of your faith it will happen” (Matthew 9:29).
“Instantly Jesus reached out his hand and rescued him. “O man of little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me” (Matthew 14:31)?
“Woman,” Jesus told her, “your faith is large, and your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed right then” (Matthew 15:28).
“Afterwards the disciples asked Jesus privately, “Why couldn’t we cast that demon out?” “Because of your little faith,” Jesus told them. “For if you had faith even as small as a tiny mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move!’ and it would go far away. Nothing would be impossible” (Matthew 17:19-20).
Jesus said, “You can get anything—anything you ask for in prayer—if you believe” (Matthew 21:22).
“When Jesus saw how strongly they believed that he would help, Jesus said to the sick man, “Son, your sins are forgiven” (Mark 2:5)!
“In reply Jesus said to the disciples, “If you only have faith in God—this is the absolute truth—you can say to this Mount of Olives, ‘Rise up and fall into the Mediterranean,’ and your command will be obeyed. All that’s required is that you really believe and have no doubt! Listen to me! You can pray for anything, and if you believe, you have it; it’s yours” (Mark 11:22, 24)!
Jesus said, “I say emphatically that anyone who listens to my message and believes in God who sent me has eternal life, and will never be damned for his sins, but has already passed out of death into life” (John 5:24).
We need to also remember what James told us about asking God with faith and expecting Him to answer, which will not happen if we have a doubtful mind. “But when you ask him, be sure that you really expect him to tell you, for a doubtful mind will be as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind; and every decision you then make will be uncertain, as you turn first this way and then that. If you don’t ask with faith, don’t expect the Lord to give you any solid answer” (James 1:6-7).
There is so much that God wants to do in your life today, if you will stop doubting what He says that He will do for you, and instead trust Him completely and take Him at His Word. Ask God to open your eyes and your heart to Him, tell Him that you want to know Him, then show Him by spending time in His Word, and believe and trust Him to do what He says that He will do for you.
Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, I BELIEVE! I BELIEVE that You are The Lord God Almighty, the Maker of Heaven and Earth. I BELIEVE that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He is our Risen Lord and Savior. I BELIEVE that the Holy Spirit lives in me. I BELIEVE that the same power that rose Jesus from the grave lives in me. I BELIEVE that You Word is the absolute truth and that You never lie or change Your Mind. I BELIEVE that what You say You will do in Your Word will come to pass, it will take place, and absolutely nothing and no one can stop it from happening. I trust You, and I will obey You and honor You in every circumstance. I know that Your power is at work to bring about Your purpose in my life. All that I need to do is cling to You and put all my weight on and confidence in Your Word. No matter what is going on around me, I need to keep my focus on Jesus and Your Word and remember that what You say will happen is going to happen and it will come to pass. I will walk by faith and not by sight. I will trust and obey, because there is no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
