And Jesus Stood Still
Mark 10:49
And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
Bartimaeus knew who to go to for help. The disciples were there, but he didn’t ask the disciples for sight. Notice he did not ask the multitude for sight although they were there. He asked the right person. If you want something, you’ve got to ask the right person. Otherwise, you are wasting your time. You can’t tell everybody about your crisis because some folk like to see you down anyway. Sometimes folk are just waiting to hear you are behind in your rent or about to lose your car. But thank God there is one you can tell your troubles to. He said, “Thou Son of David.” It is obvious he had been listening to Gospel because he didn’t just say Jesus. He knew to refer to him as the Son of David.
Thou Son of David. In other words, “You’re the one we have been waiting on. And I heard in the Old Testament that when you come, you would open blinded eyes. I know who you are. I know you have the capability of doing something special in my life.” In essence he said, “I’m not looking for justice because I’ve made some mistakes. I’m not looking for what I deserve, because I deserve death, hell, and the grave. But I want you to have compassion on me. I want to get into your innermost being. I want you to look at me and see that I need pity and compassion.”
When was the last time you prayed a prayer serious enough to stop Jesus in his tracks? Now you know he had other things he had to do. He was on his way to Calvary to die for our sins, but here is a blind man that caused Jesus to stand still. Jesus said, Now man, tell me what you want. Bartimaeus went right to the point. He didn’t hand Jesus a long list of all the folk he wanted Him to bless. When you stop God, know what you want and ask Him for it.
