Apathy, Rebellion, and the Broad Road to Destruction

Those of us who were alive fifty years ago remember that America was a different place, a safer place-  less tolerant of the pervasion of corruption and evil. Sure, it was here, but if we compare 1966 to now, there are some marked differences that would have shocked the people who lived then.

We have slid into a deception of acceptance.

We now have TV shows that flaunt partial nudity, bad language, adultery, and jokes about intimacy. We have gay couples kissing in front of our children. There are commercials pushing male enhancement supplements and drugs for impotency. The Grammys and Academy Awards feature women barely clothed- leaving not much to the imagination. TV shows and cable specials focus on the occult and dark enchantment.  Shows with the names, “Lucifer” and “Supernatural” pervade the networks. Our children are becoming fascinated with witchcraft, as it is being treated so carelessly on shows that they and their parents watch. They are being indoctrinated to believe that the paranormal is normal.

Our music invades our stereos and radios with calls to violence, killing police and beating women, and wild sex. The f-bomb is prevalent in songs in the top ten. Some dancing is now a clothed demonstration of intercourse. The music behind the words is dark and ominous; death is often mentioned, and depression and sadness are paramount.

Perversion is pervasive.

Our movies are filled with sex, violence, blood, cursing, and death.  At the theater, movies which are rated “parental guidance suggested,” used to be the ones which were rated R or did not allow minors into the theater. What used to be considered too disgusting and horrifying is now commonplace.

Books are filled with sex, dark magic, and evil, and our kids read them right under our noses. They promote promiscuity, adultery, violence, and occult rituals often without consequences. Young girls think it is normal to be eye candy on the arm of a married man or fall in love with a vampire. Other books are more subtle.

Adults wrote these books for children, but they are often read by adults too. It’s because they’ve been lured into the occult and they believe it to be harmless. The “Twilight” series comes to mind. Vampires, witches, and supernatural events are the focus of these books. Our children are being trapped into believing a dangerous unseen world is normal. God’s Word calls witchcraft a work of the flesh and lists it with other carnal works which can keep us from ever knowing Him. (Galatians 5:17-21, Isaiah 8:19).

All these media have changed how we as Americans accept what goes on in the news and in our neighborhoods. We glaze over the violence that explodes into riots when a law enforcement kills a suspect. We eat our snacks while a mass murderer guns down dozens of innocents. And we call our friends to remind them not to miss the next episode of “The Exorcist.”  This acceptance is so much more dangerous than it appears to be on the surface.  It has changed us. We no longer heed what God warned about in His Word for centuries upon centuries. We are blindly existing in sinful rebellion, not wanting to know what God has to say, closing our eyes, ears and hearts to His unchanging message.

Fifty years ago, who would have ever imagined transgender men demanding to be allowed in a ladies bathroom? Or that same-sex couples would push the traditional meaning of marriage to a different level? When would we ever have considered partial birth abortion to be okay, let alone any abortion on demand? How could a presidential candidate condoning such murder have ever have become a nominee? And how have we allowed women to become so objectified that the other presidential candidate can talk about assaulting them when he was 59 years old and is given a free pass? Both candidates embrace that which we are to avoid in 2 Timothy 3:1-5.

God’s people, (His Church) will survive all this.

The gates of Hell shall not prevail against it (Matt 16:18). We do finish the race. He will spew the lukewarm believers who condone the world’s sin out of His mouth, saying He never knew them, (Rev 3:16). Apathy toward or acceptance of sin is not a trait of a Christian. But too many people are on the broad road to destruction, and instead of standing with God, they let the world’s ways become theirs. You cannot have it both ways.

True believers are those who understand that God doesn’t change. He never has and He never will. He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever. God did not accept nor tolerate the sins that we have become inured to and He never will. To fight for the church is to not compromise to what it was intended to be. God will take care of the result. Those who rebel will suffer the consequences. That’s His choice and always has been.

Of equal importance, we cannot condone evil in any form and expect to have a relationship with our Savior. He abhors sin. We ourselves not only need to repent daily, but we need to distance ourselves from those who sanction such sin. I’m not a preacher or pastor; I’m just a concerned parent, grandparent, and citizen. And I am a Christian.

I see the rebellion in America and I know why it’s happening. We have left God behind. People have shut him out of our decisions; we have stopped praying and attending church. We have embraced darkness, violence, death, and language that should never be spoken. We now accept people as leaders who embrace the evil we are told to avoid. God Himself tells us in Proverbs 17:15: He that justifieth the wicked and he that condemneth the just, even they BOTH are an abomination to the LORD”. (KJV).

Are you a Believer who is justifying evil – with what you watch, listen to, read? With your vote? God makes no secret that this is an abomination and judgment will come. Christians aren’t perfect, but we cannot claim the title if we do not heed the warning. Eternity is so much more than an election cycle.

Stay away from that which is evil or it will invade you little by little and cause you to justify sin that would have horrified you fifty years ago. If we keep going down this slippery slope, where will we be fifty years from now?
