BE KINGDOM-MINDED; JOIN THE OPTIMISM
(Incentives to Pray and Love God)
Weekly Theme: Kingdom-Minded

Matthew 13:31-33
“Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field, which indeed is the least of all the seeds; but when it is grown it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.” Another parable He spoke to them: “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened.”

John Wesley said, “Can Satan cause the truth of God to fail? Or his promises to be of none effect? If not, the time will come when Christianity will prevail over all, and cover the earth. Let us stand a little, and survey this strange sight, a Christian world.”

Because Wesley — and the Methodist Church that started with him — had this kind of optimism, the Wesleyan revival swept across England in the eighteenth, drastically changing the moral landscape of England. But the revival didn’t stop at England’s borders. It came to America with such force that by the time of the Civil war, every third church in America was a Methodist Church.

In addition to their optimistic faith the Methodist had a message of victory over sin and full surrender to God that society was ripe and hungry for. I strongly believe that our American society today is in a similar readiness and hunger. The government will not bring revival, though God may be using it to clear away some obstacles.

What is need is for God’s people to become kingdom-minded with kingdom faith. Too long we have been complacent with the idea that all we can expect is for things to get worse. Jesus shows in the parable of the mustard seed that the kingdom of God’s very nature produces phenomenal growth. The tiny mustard seed has been known to grow to 30 feet in height and just as wide. It illustrates the kingdom becoming the support branches to society with its reign of righteousness.

The parable of the leaven shows massive permeation into society. The leaven at 2% of the dough permeates the whole loaf. God’s kingdom not only has phenomenal growth; by nature it also permeates the thought form of society until God’s truth prevails in the minds of the leaders. This happens to the extent that they legislate laws that pave the way for revival even if they are not serving the Lord in a personal way.

To be kingdom-minded is to expect God to do great things in the land. China and other Far East countries are having revival in the face of unbelievable opposition. It is time to pray fervently for a mighty awakening and revival of Christianity in America. Kingdom faith demands that we believe God for Him to send us a mighty spiritual deluge.
