“Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?”

Key scripture – “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need” (Matthew 6:33).
How often do you find yourself worrying about something? We worry about tomorrow, the economy, our jobs, money, and friendships. We worry about our kids, our parents, and our health. Some of us experience it more than others, but nearly all of us have an “anxious core.”
Jesus understood that worrying can be a consuming struggle. So He took the time to talk about it in one of His most famous sermons (Matthew 6:25-34). At one point He reasoned, “Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” (Matthew 6:27). The obvious answer is “Nope.”
He concluded, “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today” (Matthew 6:34). In other words, don’t borrow trouble from tomorrow. You have plenty on your plate right here and now.
Jesus also taught us not to worry about basic needs: “whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear” (Matthew 6:25). He pointed out that just as God cares for the birds and flowers, He has more than enough to provide for your daily provisions.
Most of all, Jesus encouraged His followers to “seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need” (Matthew 6:33).
As a child of God, you can rest in God and His saving and restoring influence at work in the world around you, and trust that your Heavenly Father will provide for your needs (Matthew 6:30). Believe me when I say, your worries are no match for His power and promises.
What worries have been consuming you? Stop right now and bring them to God in prayer and leave them in His powerful, loving hands, and instead of worrying ask Him to show you how to seek His Kingdom and live righteously.
Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, I know what You want me to do with all my worries and fears, and that is, cast all my burdens on You, and You will sustain me, strengthen me, protect me, go before me, and come behind me and be my rear guard, because You will never ever allow the righteous to be moved. (Psalm 55:22). That means I can pile all my troubles on Your shoulders. That means You will carry my load for me. That means You will never let me topple into ruin. That means You will save me from all my troubles. That means You surround and defend me. That means You are always watching over me and Your ears are attentive to my cries. That means You protect my bones and not one of them will be broken. That means You will redeem me. That means I will never be condemned. That is why David was able to say when he was old that he had never seen the righteous forsaken, nor their children begging bread. Instead, because of You, the righteous, which includes me, are gracious and lend, and their offspring are a source of blessing. (Psalm 37:25-26). I pray this in the Name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, Amen.
