Cast Off The Old Junk

Mark 10:50-51

And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus. And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

And he cast away his garments. Bartimaeus was a beggar and he carried an old quilt to wrap around himself while sitting on the side of the road. But when he heard Jesus calling him, he got up and said, “I don’t need this thing any more.” When you meet Jesus there are some things you don’t need any more. You have been trying to shield yourself, but now you have new freedom in life. I know of people who keep bodyguards with them every where they go. Go on if you want to, but when you are saved, there are some things you don’t need anymore because God gives his angels charge to keep watch over you so you can sing all day and all night.

The Bible says this man was made whole. Now there is a difference in being healed over and against being made whole. Being healed and having wholeness are not the same. A whole lot of folk today have been healed, but they aren’t whole. When you are healed, that means your body doesn’t hurt. But when you are made whole, that means your heart doesn’t hurt. When you are healed of blindness, you can see physically, but when you are whole, then you can see spiritually. When you are healed, you can walk, but when you are whole, you can walk in wisdom.

Thank God he’s able to make you whole immediately. I’m so glad He doesn’t stop at healing, but He goes on to make a person whole. He gives us more than what we ask for. Bartimaeus asked Jesus only to give him his sight. Yet, this was going to be a two-part miracle. Jesus went on to make him whole. Certainly, if you make one step toward the Lord, He will make two. Bartimaeus was able to cast aside the old things and walk in newness.
