Changing you from the inside out

  Laura Ingle

Key scripture- “Jesus said to her, ‘Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life’” (John 4:13-14).

Once you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, God’s first focus in your life is to begin changing you from the inside out and to heal you from the damage that sin has inflicted on your soul.

In order for God to be able to fulfill His purpose and use you in the lives of other people as He builds His Kingdom, He has to be able to work through you and shine His life and His nature through your life, and that is why God needs to work in you. The inner change in you began when you put your faith in Jesus and what He did at the cross to provide forgiveness and to restore your relationship with God. God adopted you into His family as His son or daughter and placed His empowering Holy Spirit within you to change you from the inside out, and He uses the Bible to help you see the issues of life clearly. That is why it is so important that you read and meditate on His Word on a daily basis, and get alone and spend time with Him.

But there’s one ingredient of this inner healing that you bring to the relationship, and that’s your responsiveness to God. He’ll do it all, as long as you respond to Him when He convicts you of sin or calls you to action, and when He does, you need to confess your sin and turn from it, and immediately do what God tells you to do.This is what Paul was talking about in Romans 12:1 where he said, “So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you” (Message Bible).

What has God been prompting you about lately? Are you ready to respond to Him today? Remember, anything short of immediately doing what God says to do is disobedience.

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, I want to be just like Jesus and always respond to You. I know that I am blessed when I stay on course, walking steadily on the road that You reveal to me, and when I follow Your directions, and I don’t go off on my own. You have prescribed the right way to live, and You expect me to live it. I want my steps to be steady, and I want to keep to the course You set for me. I want to learn the pattern of Your righteous ways. Guide me down the road of Your commandments and give me a bent for your words of wisdom. Father, I am not a passive observer. I receive Your grace, I want to grow in knowledge, and join You in Your work of redemption. To achieve this, help me to add virtue to my faith, and then knowledge to my virtue; to knowledge, add discipline; to discipline, add endurance; to endurance, add godliness; to godliness, add affection for others as sisters and brothers; and to affection add love. For if I possess these traits and multiply them, then I will never be ineffective or unproductive in my relationship with Jesus. But if I don’t have these qualities, then I will be nearsighted and blind, forgetting that my past sins have been washed away. (2 Peter 1:5-9). I depend on and cherish Your commandments. I promise to do everything you say to do. I know that when I focus on You Word and I take a long careful look at Your ways, I will always keep my feet on the trail that You have blazed for me, and I will be quick to follow your orders. Train me to live by your counsel, because what You say goes and is as permanent as the heavens. Your truth never goes out of fashion; Your Word is absolute truth and is always dependable. I’m all yours. Your words of wisdom are like diamonds. There are limits to everything human, but nothing can contain or stop Your commands! Father, thank You for affirming your promises to me, the promises that were made to all who fear You. (Psalm 119:1-8, 33, 41, 57, 89). In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
