Desire for Truth

  Laura Ingle

Key scripture- “Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart” (Psalm 51:6 ESV).

Have you ever been in a situation where you felt like you were in way over your head and you are full of fear and panic? Did you find yourself saying things like this to yourself, “I don’t know what I am doing? This is bad. This is going to destroy me.”

You get to a point where the negative thoughts are pushing your mind closer and closer to the cliff of failure. The doubt inside of you takes over and skepticism steals your peace by day, and your sleep by night. In the secret places of your heart, you are listening to the whispers of fear and allowing it to make itself at home.

We all have times when we lack the confidence we need, just when we need it. Yet even when we’re shaking, we can rely on a wisdom that is tried and true — God’s wisdom, which is found in His Word. Psalm 51:6 says, “Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.”

Every day, we have a choice: What will we allow to reside in our hearts? What will we allow to take root?

God desires we choose to experience His truth, firmness and faithfulness — the picture of confidence. He wants us to experience this stabilizing wisdom in our innermost being, in the hidden place, the deepest part of our hearts. He wants His confidence and courage to reside in that place no one else sees. There He will make wisdom known to us; there He can show us our next move.

We need to pour into our hearts the wisdom that comes from the depths of God’s heart to the deepest part of ours. When you are upset, unglued or uncertain, you need a wisdom only God can provide. When your world is shaken by rocky relationships, worrisome world events or failing finances, you need a confident wisdom that knows, on Christ my solid rock, all will be well.

You can choose what fills your heart and where you allow your mind to go. Should you choose to fill your mind with truth and your heart with God’s wisdom, insecurity and fear will be pushed out. There simply will not be enough space! 1 John 4:18b tells us, “… perfect love casts out fear.” (ESV) His presence and peace will come into your situation and comfort you.

You and I can make that choice. When our feelings and our emotions try to take over, through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can stop them. We might not be strong enough to stop the swirling in our own strength, but we can stop our reactions with wisdom from God’s Word and the Spirit’s power.

When panic and fear try to take over, stop and do this: Cry out to God and say, Father, Help me! Then start telling fear what God says about you and your situation.

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, I trust You and my confidence is in You. I know that I will not fail because You are within me and You are with me. If God is for me, who can be against me, absolutely no one! I will take all my thoughts and my lofty imagination captive and I will put them under the obedience of Jesus, under the obedience of Your Word, and if what I am thinking does not match up to Your Word I will believe Your Word, not Satan, because he is a liar and deceiver. I know that the plans that You have for me are for good and not for evil, for a future and a hope. You are Yahweh Shalom – The Lord is Peace. When I going back and forth with all kind of bad scenarios in my mind and my heart is in turmoil, I will get alone You and get on your knees and say, “Our Father in Heaven, You are the Lord my Peace. You are the one who calms the troubled waters in me. When I wake up in the night, instead of worrying, I will cry out to You, Yahweh Shalom. I don’t need to get up every morning and think that I need to make it all work, because You are the One who makes it all work, You are my Peace. You bring calm when there is disturbance in my soul. You bring rest when I cannot sleep.” In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
