Dodge Danger

Genesis 3:2-3

And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: (But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

Eve made several tragic mistakes. Number one, she allowed Satan to catch her alone. Satan loves to catch you alone. He cruises around to find you at your weakest point. The second problem she had was being in the wrong place at the wrong time. There were other trees that she could have been hanging around, but she was there in the midst of the garden gazing at the forbidden fruit. And the problem in the garden was not the apple on the tree; it was really the pair in the garden that created the major catastrophe. Eve made a third mistake and that was she did not utilize her Bible. I know there are those that say that there was no Bible during the days of Adam and Eve, but there was a Bible. What was their Bible? The word of God. Now they didn’t have a Bible with sixty-six books, one thousand one hundred thirty nine chapters. No, Eve had only two verses but she misquoted both of them. She took the word freely out of verse two and the word surely out of verse three. Number four, she didn’t consult her spouse. She could have said to Satan, “Every evening my husband comes home and we always sit down and have a fruit cocktail together.” Or she could have said, “My husband is the head of this house and I recommend that you talk to him.” The fifth mistake was in not telling the devil he needed to discuss the matter with God. Instead Eve tried to handle it herself. What the devil did then (and what the devil does now) is he planted a doubt in the mind of Eve. What started with a doubt ended in a denial. He did this by getting Eve to alter the word. Whenever the devil can get you to alter the word, you will lose the grip on your spiritual pilgrimage. Dodge the devil!
