Drenched In Doubt
Matthew 14:26-27
And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
The disciples saw their good God in time of trouble. When they saw him walking on the water, they were troubled. They had some apprehension about his help. I have discovered in life that sometimes you can be So drenched in your trouble that you can’t see your triumph. You can be so caught up in you circumstances that you can’t see your savior. Your can be So bogged down with your doubt that you can’t focus on your deliverance. If you put doubt in front of the deliverer, you’ll walk around with your head down from now on. But you’ve got to know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Notice hat Jesus immediately responded, urging them to “Be of good cheer.” I like that because he’s always around to disperse cheer. Jesus knows how to cheer us up. You can be dying from cancer and Jesus will have you with a smile on your face. He can bring cheer to a person on their way to their death bed. Have you ever gone to see a person that was dying and when you left, they were happier than you were? They told you, “I’m all right; I got it fixed up with Jesus.” Can’t nobody do you like the Lord can. He says, “Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.”
I wondered, “Why did Jesus have to tell them who he was.” But here again, you can get so caught up in your crisis until you forget who Jesus is. If you know who Jesus is, you’ll stop crying at night over problems in your life. If you know who Jesus really is, you want panic because your bank account is low. If your name is scandalized, you’ll count it all joy. When the doctor gives you bad news, you can say, I’ve got another doctor that’s above all doctors.
