Exiting Earth

Luke 9:31

Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.

Moses shows up. God wouldn’t let him get to Canaan with the Israelites, but God preserved him and brought him over anyway. God got Elijah and brought him back. Here is the good part, these men were recognized by Peter, James and John. There were no videos or photos, but when Peter saw Moses and Elijah, he knew who they were. You will also know those you love when you get to heaven.

What could they be talking about on this hill called Mount Herman? You see Moses represented the law and Elijah represented the prophecy. Jesus came to fulfill the law and the prophecy. The jobs of Moses and Elijah were only temporary, but the Lords job was eternal. The Bible says they came to talk about His decease. The word decease in the Greek text actually means exodus. Jesus was getting ready to make an exodus from planet earth. And God the Father sent these two heavenly hosts to tell Jesus, “Just go on. We did the best we could with the law, but we know you have done a better job. We did the best we could with the prophecy, but we know you will do a much betterjob.

These two men were qualified to talk to Jesus about his decease or departure. Elijah didn’t experience death; he was caught up by a whirlwind and he disappeared in the air. Moses died but nobody was ever able to find his grave. Both men left in an unusual way but a few thousand years later this dead Moses shows up on Mount Herman. Isn’t that something? I don’t know how you all feel about it, but this helped me out because I discovered in reading the text that just because you leave here, it doesn’t mean it’s over for you. Too many folk think it’s all over when you or your loved ones die. No! Its just a transfer from one place to the other. Don’t get upset with folk when they’ve moved over to a better place. They encouraged Jesus to keep on going!
