Faith Afoot
1 Corinthians 5:7
For we walk by faith, not by sight
Enoch is an illustration of a faith that walks. Genesis 5:24 tells us that he walked with god. The Bible says that we walk by faith, not by sight. Walking is a posture. In other words it is a position that one must take in order to travel. You may be able to cause a dead man to stand up, but you can’t make him walk. In order for a person to walk they must have life on the inside. Accordingly if a person is going to walk with God, he must have life on the inside. Specifically, you must be spiritually alive and spiritually alert in order to be able to walk with God.
What does it mean to walk with God? First of all it means harmony. Amos 3:3 says How can two walk together accept they agree?. God doesn’t want us to try and persuade Him to agree with us; we must agree with him. You see I haven’t been here long enough to try to bend God over to think the way I think or to tell God, “I want you on my side.” I need to agree with God. That’s what confession really is, when you agree with God about your sins. We call sin weakness; God says it is wickedness. We call sin a defect; God calls it disease. Whatever God says about sin is exactly what sin is.
Furthermore, when you walk with God it means you are going places. You will never remain the same. You won’t stay in the same old rut, do the same old things, or have the same old attitude and disposition all of the time. If you are walking with Him, you ought to be doing some progressing. You will be moving forward, stepping a little higher, and walking a little closer. Before following Him, you prayed a traditional prayer. But when you started following Jesus, your prayers changed. You began to stretch out on the Lord. And when you stretch out, you expect results from him. We no longer pray just to be praying; we expect to get an answer. A faith walk!
