From Pit To Palace

Genesis 41:39

And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:

Joseph said, “Mr. King Pharaoh, let me tell you the interpretation of your dream. The fat cows and the full ears of corn mean that you have seven more good years, seven more years of prosperity. But the seven lean cows and the seven lean ears of corn mean that in seven years a famine is coming. If you don’t prepare for rough times now, you are going to be in trouble. If you plan to survive the lean years, you need first of all to bring in a good administrator. You need somebody that knows something about agriculture. They also need to know how to handle people. you’re a King and you don’t know anything about raising cows or managing a farm. You have to bring in a Chief Executive.”

Pharaoh thought, “Joseph, I’ve been watching you. You have a real good track record. You were faithful down at Potiphar’s house. I pulled your birth record and you treated your daddy right. I have your prison record. I saw you didn’t create any problems down in the dungeon. As a matter of fact, you did everything the warden asked you to do. So Pharaoh said, “Joseph, you shall be over my house, and according to your word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than you.

Joseph started off down in a pit and even though he had to come up on the rough side of the road, God moved him from a pit all the way to a palace. Now if Joseph had stayed down with his daddy Jacob, he would have been a farmer the rest of his life. But God brought him on the rough side of the mountain. I used to complain about climbing up the rough side. But that’s the best side of the mountain to climb on. The smooth side of the mountain has nothing to grip hold of, but when you have a rough side, every rock is a stepping stone, bringing you a little higher.
