Functioning By Faith

Genesis 22:4

Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.

On the third day he lifted up his eyes and saw the place in the distance. If you continue trusting in the Lord, you will eventually see. There is a difference in faith and sight. Sight lets me look at the door. Faith will let me look beyond the door. Sight lets me see myself going to bed, but faith will let me see myself getting up the next morning. Sight lets me see myself filling out an application; faith will let me see myself retiring from my job. Sight lets me see myself getting a car on credit, but faith will let me see myself paying the last note. Sight lets me see myself paying my down payment on my house; faith will let me see the deed from paying my last note. Some people like sight, but I tell you it’s best to depend upon faith.

You remember when God told Moses to take the Israelites and get out of Egypt. He told them to leave for a land flowing with milk and honey, but for some mysterious reasons there were some things on the journey God didn’t mention. He didn’t tell them that they were going to come to the bitter water or that there was a Red Sea before them. He didn’t tell them they would run into a camp filled with snakes or that they were going to run out of food in the wilderness. He just told them to leave now.

I discovered that if God shows us the problems we’re going to face, we never leave. If God shows us that we are going to run into an enemy, we will go in another direction. But that enemy just might be just a test. That enemy just might be a trapeze that God is using to help you leap over some stuff you otherwise wouldn’t if you hadn’t run into your enemy. If you knew you were going to get fired six months after you got your new house, you would never get one. But God allowed you to get the house, then lose your job to bring you to a new place in Him. He provides.
