Getting to know God
Laura Ingle Key scripture – “Jesus said: “But the hour is coming, and is now; when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth” (John 4:23-24).
True worship involves the heart. We all want God to say about us what He said about David, “He is a man after God’s own heart.” “And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.’” (Acts 13:22).
If you want to go after God’s heart then start doing what is outlined below, and you will be on your way to getting to know God.
1. Read and meditate on the Bible. The Bible is God’s autobiography and if you read it you will be amazed at what you can learn about God.
2. You can get to know God by praying to Him, not just in the morning when you wake up, or before you eat, or when you receive bad news, but talk to Him all through the day. Every time you think about your problem, pray about it instead.
3. Set aside time each day and get alone with God, While you are alone with Him, read the Bible and talk to Him about your concerns, and thank and praise Him for the blessings that He has given you. I have found it that it strengthens me to start each day in quiet time with God, and really starts the day off on the right foot.
We all know how people act when they fall in love with someone, they want talk to them all the time, spend time with them, and read what they have written. Do the same with God and watch how your love for Him and your relationship with Him grows. He wants to have an intimate personal relationship with you and the only thing that is stopping that from happening is YOU.
Remember, You cannot walk with God and walk in sin. So confess your sin, repent, and turn away from it. Turn from the darkness to the light. Without God you have no answers and no way out.
Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, I no longer walk in darkness but in the light of Jesus. Search my heart and show me any sin and iniquity in my heart, and I will confess it, repent, and turn from it. I want You to “Direct my steps by Your word, and let no iniquity have dominion over me.” (Psalm 119:133). From this day forward, I will get up thirty minutes early every morning and spend time alone with You, I will read and meditate on Your Word, talk to You about my day, sing to You, and pray. I am going to do what Paul said, which is; I will rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and in everything give thanks, no matter if it is good or bad, I will give thanks because this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for me. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). Father, I want You to describe me like You described David “a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.” Show me each day how to do Your will and walk in humility and obedience to You. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
