Give Up The Nest

Give Up The Nest

Deuteronomy 32:11

As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings:

The mother eagle knows that the little eagles obtain strength only when they fly If they refuse to fly she puts them on her back and takes them out into the blue yonder. When they’re sitting comfortably on mother’s back, she dives out from under the little eaglets. Then she pulls up over them and watches them as they flap on their own wings. If one is unable to handle it alone, she dives back under him where he can rest a little on her back. She repeats the process it until they can make it on their own. She knows that eventually the eaglets will grow up, but she also knows they could be lazy and would like to sit around and do nothing. So the mother eagle prepares her nest a special way. She begins with clay and mud to which she adds thorns and thistles and allows them to stick up out of the clay. She uses straw to cover the thorns and then she sheds her feathers and covers the straw. When it is time for the eaglets to leave the nest, the mother eagle will stir it and move all the comfort out of the nest so the thorns and thistles will stick the bottoms of the little eaglets. The place of domicile becomes uncomfortable.

Sometimes God works with us like the mother eagle attends to the little eaglets. He may need to work with us the same way because we grow too comfortable in this life. When God sends us through test after test, what he is really trying to do is to carve out a testimony. But we cannot have a testimony without first having a test. What better person to give us a test than the person that died for us. We must remember that this is not our home. We’re just pilgrims traveling an unfriendly land. And whatever God is doing to us and through us, he is preparing us for a better day. If you get the right character, the comfort will come.
