He Has The Master Key

Revelation 3:7

And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David…

This letter was sent to the Minister of the church so he could share the message with the parishioners. The first characteristic or attribute of Jesus is Holy. The word Holy comes from the idea meaning ‘being the real thing’ Jesus is no phony. He’s true, he is righteous, he is the Holy one. Everything about Jesus was Holy; his speech was Holy; his attitude was Holy; his thoughts were Holy. That’s why he said in Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus. If we are the children of God, then we too should be Holy. You can’t really live a holy life unless you are a Holy person. So he is first of all holy.

Then the text states he is also true. Jesus doesn’t major in error. As a matter of fact, He says before one tittle or one jot of his word shall fail, heaven and earth will pass away. Jesus cannot afford to tell one lie. I mean if Jesus would tell just one lie, the wheels would stop turning, horses would stop pawing in the valley, and roses would stop blossoming with just one lie. Not only is he true, he is the truth. John 1:9 says, “He is the true Light.” John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth and the life.” John 15:1 “I am the true vine.” And so he is true.

He has the Key of David. He has the authority to open and to close. Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth and was dead; and behold I am alive forevermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. You can’t die without Jesus turning the key. Sometimes we think that what we do keeps us alive. No, it is the keeper of the keys. When things are falling all around you, He can hold that key open and you will remain alive. When he gets ready for you to go nothing you can do will keep you here because he has the key.
