‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust’
Laura Ingle Key scripture- “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust’” (Psalm 91:1-2 NIV).
When you receive bad news are you overcome by fear?
When that happens, scary images start attacking your mind with all the possible bad things that can happen, and you start saying “this is going to destroy me” or “I will never recover from this”. Instead of panicking, y…ou need to turn to today’s Key scripture, because in it you have a script that you can say out loud when you receive any type of bad news, which is, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Isn’t it interesting the two words God is called here are “refuge” and “fortress”?
A refuge is a place you go into to find shelter and protection from danger or trouble, where you have recourse for aid, relief and escape, and a fortress is a place built intentionally for the purpose of exceptional security. The Hebrew word for fortress is metsudah, with one of its definitions being an “inaccessible place.”
God is not just a refuge from the storm, but He’s also a fortress, the place where fear no longer has access to You, and fear can’t catch what it can no longer reach.
We live in a broken world where broken things happen everyday, but as a child of God, you don’t have to live with fear taunting and terrorizing you. So the next time you feel afraid, you can process fear by knowing that you don’t have to live afraid, as you keep saying out loud over and over, “Dear God, You are my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” And then, as you say this, close your eyes and picture Him lifting you to a place where fear can’t hold you or touch you.
Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, I have nothing to fear because I know, as a Child of God, that those who live in the shelter of the Most High, live in the shadow of the Almighty. You are so close to me I am in Your shadow. My help comes from You, The Lord God Almighty, the Maker of Heaven and earth. You are my hiding place and You protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. (Psalm 32:7). I refuse to live in a state of fear because I live in faith and those two cannot live together. I know how much You love me, and that You are my protector and provider, with You on my side I fear nothing and no one, because I am already more than a conqueror through Christ who strengthens me. The enemy has already been defeated on the cross by Jesus, my Lord and Savior, and He brings hope and clarity to any situation that leaves me anxious and confused. I will not run away or cower or shrink back, because I am a Child of the One True God. You are my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
